Geraldene and Willie

Geraldene Coates

A Yorkshire lass with flaming “marmalade” hair, Geraldene started Marmalade Tart Boutique in 2009. Because of her lifelong love of fashion and a devotion to customer service instilled by her previous career, Marmalade Tart has grown rapidly despite the economic climate.

The key to Marmalade Tart’s success is a fun, fabulous shopping experience, great clothes, good prices, kind, honest advice and a friendly atmosphere, all served with lots of laughs.

“I actually attribute a lot of our success to Willie, the official greeter and dog in the window.”

Alex

Alexandra Wragg

Alex came to Canada from Sheffield, England ten years ago to live in Sidney.  She retired some years ago, but says working part-time in the shop for the past 2 years has put a new spring in her step.

“There are never two days the same.  I love it when our customers have a great experience in the shop and find something that really suits them.  I also really enjoy meeting new customers, so many of whom become friends.

We all love our vibrant new location at the bottom of Beacon Avenue where “it’s all happening.” If you haven’t been in yet, come by and take a look.”

Hazel

Hazel Edmison

Hazel came to Canada in 1952 from the UK, settled in Calgary, and lived there for 58 years.   She started her career in retail when she was hired by Woodwards at the age of 16.

“They taught me all there was to know about the Retail World – displays, merchandising, working with customers and more. I knew it was the career for me right from the start.

My husband and I moved to this great town of Sidney l8 months ago. I loved walking around town on a daily basis but missed working. Luckily one day I saw a sign in the window of Marmalade Tart, and the rest is history. I really enjoy working in this great shop, especially all the lovely people I’ve had a chance to meet. I’m looking forward to meeting even more of you in the days ahead.”

Jean

Jean Hasker

Jean hails from Wakefield in Yorkshire, England and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1970.   She has always loved fashion and came into the shop as soon as it opened to take a look.

“I was so pleased to see a new boutique open full of fabulous fashions. It’s now my good fortune is to be part of the “Tart Team.”

I am the oldest “Tart,” by a mere three months I might add. My greatest satisfaction at work is helping customers select an outfit that complements and enhances their look. Marmalade Tart has a great overall feeling of “joie de vive.” Customers young and old have remarked how exciting the clothes are and also on the ambiance of the boutique. I love being a part of it and helping to make shopping here fun.”

Rachael with Conor and Chloe

Rachael Holland

Often referred to as “The Little Tart”, Rachael is Geraldene’s daughter and buying partner.  Raising her two children, Conor and Chloe on the Mainland in North Vancouver, Rachael doesn’t have the chance to be in Marmalade Tart as much as she would like.  On the flip side of that, she gets to spend quality time with her Mum enjoying a shared passion for fashion buying all of the Fun, Flirty, Fabulous Fashions you see everyday in the shop.

“Mum and I are a great team, and great friends.   We really do love finding things that we know will suit our customers.”
